Commonly used techniques

At Springwood Chiropractic, we understand that all individuals require different chiropractic care. We use a number of highly-effective chiropractic approaches to help improve biomechanics and reduce nervous system interference. Below is an explanation chiropractic techniques commonly used...

Manipulations and mobilisations

Chiropractic spinal and peripheral adjustments seek to improve nervous system function by restoring misalignments to the musculoskeletal system. Manipulation and mobilisation techniques used are the result of years of experience, practice and a thorough understanding of joint mechanics. Virtually all joints of the body can be adjusted to help restore proper range of motion.

SOT and Cranial techniques
Sacro Occipital Technic (SOT) is a chiropractic technique which is comprehensive, gentle and based on a thorough understanding of neurology. SOT is named because of the relationship between the Sacrum (base of the spine) and the Occiput (base of the skull). SOT is concerned with optimising function of the craniosacral respiratory mechanism. This mechanism occurs via the pumping action of the sacrum and occiput of Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF). If these structures become misaligned this pumping function is adversely affected. CSF acts as the circulatory system of the brain and spinal cord; its movement is important for nerve nutrition and removal of toxins. CSF movement normally occurs as a wavelike fluctuation of fluid in the brain and spinal cord. While this motion is very subtle, it is essential for the normal function of the brain and spinal cord, and thus the entire nervous system and the body. It operates in response to increases and decreases in diaphragmatic pressures during breathing. Laurelle completed the basic and advanced SOTO certification in 2016.

SOT is a system of chiropractic and chiropractic Craniopathy that understands the pelvis forms the foundation support of the human skeleton. It supports the spine, upper body and head, and enables us to transfer our weight to our legs.

Terminal Point Technique (T.P.T)
T.P.T  is low force and very gentle. This techniques uses a precision adjusting table with several segments known as drop pieces. The weighing mechanism allows the table segments to lift up a fraction of an inch, then a specific pressure is applied. Offering a low force approach.

Low Level Laser Therapy (L.L.L.T)
LLLT has been used for almost 40 years- the low levels of visible or near infra red light being known to reduce pain, inflammation, and oedema. The LLLT is known to also promote the healing of wounds, restoration of deeper tissues and nerves, and the prevention of tissue damage.  The initial effects of the light are seen in the mitochondria. This leads to increased ATP production, modulation of reactive oxygen species and the induction of transcription factors that in turn lead to increased cell proliferation and migration (particularly by fibroblast), modulation in cytokine, growth factors, inflammatory mediator levels, as well as increased oxygenation of tissues.

Through research, LLLT has shown results of these bio-mechanical and cellular changes in animals and patients- including benefits in the increased healing of chronic wounds, improvement in sports injuries and carpal tunnel syndrome, pain reduction in arthritis and neuropathies, and amelioration of damage after heart attacks, stroke, nerve injury, retinal toxicity, as well as also improving cognitive function.  The laser energy (dependent on the wavelength) is absorbed by the targeted cells and tissues- the correct wavelength to do this is important and calibrated according to the indicated tissue treated.

LLLT is an ideal, passive systemic therapy method that is classified as being risk free and suitable for more patients.

Activator
This instrument delivers a fast, low-force thrust. Adjustments are comfortable and many times faster than by hand, thereby the body rarely tightens to resist. This technique is particularly good for children and the elderly.

Applied Kinesiology
Applied Kinesiology principles understand that the body is an interacting unit made of different parts that interconnect and affect each other. A problem in one area can lead to problems in another areas. According to kinesiology, the muscles will register and reflect anything that is out of balance with any part of the body. Various forms of muscle testing are used to identify imbalances in the body’s structural, chemical, and emotional aspects of health. By using these tests, the body’s priority healing needs can be assessed.

Nutrition and Homeopathy
Depending on your nutritional status, individual vitamins and minerals may be recommended. A good diet, combined with a specific nutritional supplements can help reduce inflammation and pain and restore mobility and restore the natural healthy equilibrium. We can provide you with both liquid and encapsulated vitamins and minerals that are also bioactive and easily absorbed into the body. Laurelle has the 2015 MAPS Certification of Gastrointestinal & Nutritional Advanced Clinical Module and has completed the examinations at Mindd international Forum 2015. Homeopathy is a natural form medicine based on the principle of symptom similarity. Derived from natural sources homeopathic remedies are diluted and potentized to make them safe.

Fascial and muscle releases
Fascia, the soft tissue surrounding muscles, bones, and organs, plays a crucial role in supporting the body. Addressing fascial imbalances can improve stability, coordination, and resolve long-standing compensations in postural and movement patterns. Muscle therapy techniques also include therapeutic massage, PNF stretching and active muscle releases. These techniques are particularly useful for sporting injuries or chronic pain symptoms.

Rehabilitation and postural training
At Springwood Chiropractic we understand that there is no shortcut to ensuring long term health, wellness and happiness. This is why the treatments we provide are focused strongly on continued rehabilitation, exercise and postural training: to achieve maximum results from your body. We offer ongoing health management and design a tailored plan of action that you can work at day to day to achieve your ideal health. This is our commitment to you- providing you with long term solutions rather than just short term relief.

Dry Needling

Is a technique which involves the insertion of acupuncture needles into muscles in order to alleviate pain and stimulate healing.

HipTrac™

HipTracTM is a device that provides long-axis hip traction that is easily and independently controlled by the patient.  Patients with hip pathology such as hip osteoarthritis, femoral-ace-tabular impingement, and ace-tabular labral tears use it to increase their mobility, decrease their pain and increase their exercise tolerance. Professional and elite athletes across many sports use it for recovery, relaxation and restoration following intense practice and competition, even when they have no hip pathology at all.
